How to Help Loved Ones Going Through Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

April 6, 2017

Going through minimally invasive spine surgery can be a stressful time for those that suffer an injury and feel pain, and you may wonder how you can help them. In many cases, our first instinct is to load their fridge with food and send cards and flowers as they recover. However, if you have a loved one going through minimally invasive spine surgery, here are a few other ways that you can make their experience go smoother.

Offer Them Assistance at Home and for Travel

Make sure that your loved one has help at home when it comes to the recovery process, as well as before the procedure takes place. While the recovery is shorter for minimally invasive spine surgery than traditional methods, they will still have some limitations when it comes to maneuvering around the house. You should also make sure that they have a ride to and from the clinic after the procedure so that they can focus on the minimally invasive spine surgery, and not how they will make it home.

Help Them Find the Best Care Possible

If you know someone that needs minimally invasive spine surgery, you can help them find the best care possible by being by their side as they search for experienced and credible doctors. Take the time to find a specialist that has done the procedure before and answers your questions with clarity.

Be There for Them Emotionally

Going through minimally invasive spine surgery can be emotional, and you can take a lot of the stress out of the situation by simply listening and being there for them. It’s the little things that can make all of the difference in the world, and by giving them an ear to bend and a shoulder to lean on, you’ll make the procedure much smoother for them.
